Meet Dr. Walker
Dr. Mathew Walker, a board-certified optometrist, joined the Vance Thompson Vision team in 2018 to partner with Dr. Deborah Ristvedt in Alexandria, MN specializing in the management of cataract, glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgery. His prior experience includes 10 years at a comprehensive ophthalmology practice Kutryb Eye Institute in Titusville, FL with focus on cataract surgery management, dry eye, glaucoma, and specialty contact lenses.
Education and Training
A native of Walcott, North Dakota, Dr. Walker received his undergraduate degree at North Dakota State University then went on to earn his doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating with clinical honors. While studying at ICO he earned his membership into the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Minnesota Optometric Association and is certified by the American Board of Optometry.
In Florida, Dr. Walker served his community by coordinating vision screenings for hundreds of students during the annual Gibson Center “Back to School Bash.” Dr. Walker was also invited to speak each year at the Parrish Medical Center Diabetic Support Group, where he presented updates on the latest diabetic eye care.
Hobbies and Personal Interests
Dr. Walker enjoys being a proud dad of two boys. He and his family enjoy spending time in Alexandria's great outdoors by boating, walleye fishing, hiking, and snowboarding They also enjoy cheering their alma mater NDSU football (Go Bison!).
