Meet Dr. Walker
Dr. Mathew Walker is a board-certified optometrist at Vance Thompson Vision in Alexandria, MN. Dr. Walker joined the Vance Thompson Vision team in 2018 to partner with Dr. Deborah Ristvedt and specializes in the management of cataract, glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgery. His prior experience includes 10 years at a comprehensive ophthalmology practice Kutryb Eye Institute in Titusville, FL with focus on cataract surgery management, dry eye, glaucoma, and specialty contact lenses.
Education and Training
A native of Walcott, ND, Dr. Walker received his undergraduate degree at North Dakota State University and then went on to earn his doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating with clinical honors. While studying at ICO, he earned his membership into the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Minnesota Optometric Association, and is certified by the American Board of Optometry.
In Florida, Dr. Walker served his community by coordinating vision screenings for hundreds of students during the annual Gibson Center “Back to School Bash.” Dr. Walker was also invited to speak each year at the Parrish Medical Center Diabetic Support Group, where he presented updates on the latest diabetic eye care.
Hobbies and Personal Interests
Dr. Walker enjoys being a proud dad of two boys. With his family, they love the outdoors of the Alexandria area boating, walleye fishing, hiking, and snowboarding. They also enjoy cheering their alma mater NDSU football (Go Bison!).
